Afghanistan took on Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the 29th match of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Friday, June 14. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl.
PNG lost half of their wickets in the powerplay and could manage only 30 runs. They were ultimately bundled out for 95 in 19.5 overs. Only one batter managed to cross the 20-run mark for PNG. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, taking three wickets for 16 runs in four overs.
Afghanistan lost both their openers for just 22 runs. Gulbadin Naib showed up with the bat this time and remained unbeaten on 49 runs off 36 deliveries. Afghanistan chased the target in 15.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
