South Africa took on Afghanistan in the first semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday, June 27. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl.

Afghanistan didn’t have a decent outing with the bat, with only two partnerships lasting for more than 10 runs. The highest partnership was between Karim Janat and Rashid Khan. They added 22 runs off 18 deliveries for the seventh wicket. Afghanistan managed to hit just seven fours in their innings and were bundled out for 56 runs in 11.5 overs.

Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi took three wickets each. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje finished with two wickets each.

South Africa lost the wicket of Quinton de Kock for just five runs in the second over. Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram ensured no further damage was done and helped the Proteas reach the target of 57 runs in 8.5 overs with nine wickets in hand. Hendricks scored 29 runs off 25 deliveries, while Markram made 23 runs off 21 balls. Jansen won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance.

Quinton de Kock is sixth with 204 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 143.66.

Rohit Sharma is still in seventh place, mustering 191 runs in six innings at an average of 38.20.

Jos Buttler is still in eighth place and has scored 191 runs in seven outings at an average of 47.75.

Philip Salt remains ninth with 174 runs in seven games at a strike rate of 168.93.

David Warner is still in 10th position and has amassed 178 runs in seven matches at an average of 29.66.
