South Africa faced India in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Saturday, June 29, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. India won the toss and elected to bat.

They lost three quick wickets and had only 34 runs on the board. Virat Kohli and Axar Patel added 72 runs for the fourth wicket, helping the side jump back into the match. Kohli was dismissed after scoring 76 runs off 59 deliveries in the 19th over.

India finished with 176 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the board. Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each. South Africa started on a similar note in the chase and lost two wickets for 12 runs. Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen added 58 runs for the third wicket. The match was evenly poised till the 14th over. Axar conceded 24 runs in the 15th over and India’s back was against the wall.

However, it was the Indian bowlers who managed to make sure India finished the match on a high. They conceded just 22 runs and South Africa lost the match by seven runs. Hardik Pandya took three wickets for 20 runs in three overs. Virat won the Player of the Match award and announced that it was his last T20I match. Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Tournament award.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz finished as the leading run-scorer and made 281 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 124.33. Rohit Sharma jumped to second place from third and amassed 257 runs in eight innings at an average of 36.71.

Travis Head moved to third position from second and scored 255 runs in seven games at an average of 42.50. Quinton de Kock jumped to fourth position from eighth and made 243 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 140.46.

Ibrahim Zadran moved to fifth position from fourth and amassed 231 runs in eight games at an average of 28.87. Nicholas Pooran remained in fifth place and amassed 228 runs in seven matches at an average of 38.

Andries Gous finished in sixth position and scored a total of 219 runs in six games at an average of 43.80. Jos Buttler remained in seventh place and scored 214 runs in seven matches at an average of 47.75.

Suryakumar Yadav remained in ninth place and made 199 runs in eight matches at an average of 28.42. Heinrich Klaasen moved to 10th position and amassed a total of 190 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 126.66.

Fazalhaq Farooqi finished as the leading wicket-taker and picked 17 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 6.31. Arshdeep Singh remained in second place and took 17 wickets in eight innings at a strike rate of 10.58.

Jasprit Bumrah jumped to third position from fifth and picked 15 wickets in eight innings at an average of 8.26. Anrich Nortje moved to fourth place from seventh and amassed 15 wickets in nine matches at an economy of 5.74.

Rashid Khan slipped to fifth position from third and picked 14 wickets in seven innings at an average of 12.78. Rishad Hossain moved to sixth place from fourth and picked 14 wickets in seven matches at an economy of 7.76.

Naveen-ul-Haq slipped to seventh position from sixth and took 13 wickets in eight games at an average of 12.30. Alzarri Joseph moved to ninth position from eighth and picked 13 wickets in seven matches at an economy of 7.22.

Adam Zampa slipped to 10th place from ninth and had 13 wickets to his name in seven matches at an average of 14.38. Kagiso Rabada has moved to 10th position from ninth and has 12 wickets to his name in eight games at an average of 13.25.
