The West Indies faced South Africa in the 50th match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Monday, June 24, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The co-hosts had a terrible start to their innings, losing two wickets for just five runs. Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase added 81 runs for the third wicket to put their side back in the contest. However, they lost six wickets before crossing the 100-run mark, which pushed them to the backfoot.

The West Indies posted a total of 135 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Chase was the highest scorer and made 52 runs off 42 deliveries. Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers and took three wickets for 27 runs in four overs.

The second innings was reduced to 17 overs and South Africa got the target of 123 runs to win. Andre Russell dismissed both the Proteas openers, Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock in the second over of the innings. The middle-order batters stitched some important partnerships, which helped South Africa bounce back.

South Africa lost three wickets for just 17 runs after crossing the 10th over. Marco Jansen remained in the middle and his unbeaten knock of 21 runs off 14 deliveries helped the Proteas cross the line. He hit a six off the first delivery of the last over of the innings and South Africa won the match by three wickets.

Andries Gous is still in third place and has scored a total of 219 runs in six outings at an average of 43.80. Ibrahim Zadran is still in fourth position and has amassed 211 runs in six matches at an average of 35.16.

Quinton de Kock has moved to fifth position from sixth and has made 199 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 148.50. Jos Buttler has slipped to sixth place from fifth and has scored 191 runs in seven innings at an average of 47.75. Philip Salt is still in seventh position and has amassed a total of 174 runs in seven outings at a strike rate of 168.93.

Travis Head is still in eighth place and has made 179 runs in six innings at an average of 35.80. David Warner is still in ninth place and has made 172 runs in six matches at an average of 34.40. Marcus Stoinis is still in 10th position and has scored 167 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 168.68.
