After having retired from international cricket, veteran Australian opener David Warner has handed the mantle over to Jake Fraser-McGurk. The left-handed batter shared a picture of himself with the youngster on his official Instagram account for the same reason.

The dynamic opener's international career came to a close after Australia were eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup. The southpaw managed only six runs in his final innings against India. The New South Wales cricketer mustered 178 runs in the ongoing tournament but played an integral role in Australia's 2021 T20 World Cup win.

Fraser-McGurk, meanwhile, announced his arrival during IPL 2024, thrilling the cricketing fraternity and fans with aggressive strokeplay. He played for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 and scored 330 runs in nine matches at 36.67 and kept a strike rate of 234.04. While the youngster is yet to play a T20I, he could make his first appearance in England in September and play a role similar to that of his predecessor.

During an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald in May, Warner said traveling with the squad as a reserve for the 2024 T20 World Cup should be a great experience for Fraser-McGurk. He said:

"95 per cent of our team are pretty much married with kids, coming in as a young guy can be challenging. You are potentially locked in your room, doing nothing. Fortunately, we’ll be in the Caribbean, so you can go outside and have a nice swim and things like that. But the experience for him will be great and being around the guys and the group where potentially I feel like he’ll probably go on that England tour in late August."

The Australians will be in action during the England tour in September when they play both ODIs and T20Is.
