David Warner's glorious international career ended after Australia were eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup after Afghanistan's recent win over Bangladesh. The champion batter had announced that the tournament would be his last for Australia before he parted ways with international cricket.

Warner had a reasonably impressive 2024 T20 World Cup with 178 runs at an average of almost 30 and a strike rate of 139.06 despite Australia's exit from the Super 8 phase. The 37-year-old finishes as Australia's second-highest run-scorer across formats behind only Ricky Ponting with 18,995 runs in 383 games.

Scoring a brilliant 89* off 43 balls against South Africa on his international and T20I debut, it was fitting Warner finished as Australia's all-time leading run-scorer in the format with 3,277 runs in 110 outings.

Fans on X paid tribute to one of Australia and world cricket's all-time greats with the following reactions:

The praises continued to pour in from the fans with one saying:

"Happy retirement Legend David Warner...He was a legend. Some of his shots leave a mark on our mind. We will miss him! Happy Retirement."
"Australian cricketer who is liked by whole Indians. Happy retirement life. Keep entertaining us with reels," a fan said.
"The cricket world will miss his presence in Australia's green and yellow jersey. Thank you David Warner," tweeted a fan.

"You'll struggle to find a guy that's had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket" - Ricky Ponting

Former captain Ricky Ponting hailed David Warner as arguably the most impactful all-format Australian batter in history.

The southpaw finished his international career with an incredible 49 centuries, second-most by an Aussie batter behind Ponting.

Ponting told ICC's Digital Daily Show (via MSN):

"(I) put my arm around him. I said, ‘...just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what's been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia. We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you'll struggle to find a guy that's had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has."
"I've been able to play with him, I've been able to coach him in the IPL the last couple of years, and I really enjoy his company. So, he should be very proud of what he's done," he added.

Warner was also the Player of the Tournament in Australia's lone T20 World Cup triumph in 2021, scoring 289 runs at an average of 48 in seven innings. He scored a sparkling half-century to help Australia chase a formidable 173 in the final against New Zealand.
