Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has hailed Jasprit Bumrah's contribution in their T20 World Cup triumph. The speedster was named the Player of the Tournament as he helped his team clinch their second T20 World Cup crown by beating South Africa in the final.

While speaking to the host broadcaster during the felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium after the bus parade, Kohli was asked whether he would like to sign a petition that named Bumrah as a 'national treasure' and '8th wonder of the world'.

Without giving a second thought, Virat Kohli promptly replied:

"I will sign the petition right now. Let him decide what to do with the schedule. We want him to play as long as possible. He is a once-in-a-generation bowler and we are so glad he plays for us."

Jasprit Bumrah picked up 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2024 at a sensational economy rate of just 4.17.

Virat Kohli on Jasprit Bumrah's performance in the final

Virat Kohli admitted that when South Africa needed 30 runs to win off the final five overs, he wondered whether it was a bridge too far for the Men in Blue. However, he was amazed with the way Bumrah brought his team back into the game with two overs that included a wicket and just six runs conceded.

On this, here's what Kohli said:

"I would like everyone to applaud a guy who brought us back in the game again, again and again. What he did in those last five overs by bowling two out of those was just phenomenal. A huge round of applause for Jasprit Bumrah please."

Bumrah ended up with figures of 2/18 as South Africa fell seven runs short of India's total of 176/7. The Wankhede crowd also gave the fast bowler a hero's welcome.
