South Africa will take on Afghanistan in the first semifinal of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday, June 27. The knockout match will get underway at 6:00 AM IST [8:30 PM local time - June 26].

The Proteas progressed to the semifinals by topping Group 2 in the Super 8 round. They beat the United States by 18 runs and England by seven runs before registering a three-wicket win over West Indies in a low-scoring thriller. South Africa are unbeaten in the tournament, but rather ironically, none of their wins have come in a very convincing fashion.

Afghanistan won two of their three Super 8 matches to book their place in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup for the first time. They came up with a memorable effort to stun Australia by 21 runs in St Vincent and then registered an eight-run win over Bangladesh in a nail-biting contest.

While there is plenty of excitement over the South Africa vs Afghanistan clash, the weather could play spoilsport as there are chances of rain during the match as per the forecast. For such a scenario, though, there is a reserve day in place for the first semifinal. A total of 250 minutes of additional time can be utilized during the South Africa vs Afghanistan match in case of a rain delay.

As per the playing conditions, an extra 60 minutes are available at the end of the scheduled day's play. The other 190 minutes can be utilized on the reserve day [starting from 2 PM local time]. Another important playing condition is that both sides should bat for a minimum of 10 overs per innings for a game to be constituted as complete. This was 5 overs per innings for the earlier games.

In the above instance, the Proteas will make it to the summit clash ahead of the Asian side. South Africa finished on top in Group 2 of the Super 6 round, winning all three of their matches. On the other hand, Afghanistan were second in Group 1, with two wins and a loss.
