"It's like a monkey sitting on your shoulder"- Sanjay Manjrekar feels India will be tempted to play Yashasvi Jaiswal in T20 World Cup

India v England - 4th Test Match: Day Four
Yashasvi Jaiswal is yet to play any part in the T20 World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Men in Blue may bring explosive left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal into their playing XI during the ongoing T20 World Cup. The opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hasn't worked out well with partnerships of just 22, 12, 0 & 11 so far.

The Indian team management may be keen to stick to the winning combination. However, Manjrekar reckons Jaiswal's ability to single-handedly win the game for his team is a temptation that could make things interesting as far as the playing XI is concerned.

Here's what Sanjay Manjrekar had to say to ESPNCricinfo:

"A left-hander, plus the kind of game that he (Jaiswal) has. At some stage, India will feel the pressure of having a batter like him to open. If something is not working at the top, you can't keep having that plan through the tournament. It's like a monkey sitting on your shoulder."

Manjrekar also accepted that the conundrum will be solved if Rohit and Kohli both get back to their best. However, he wants the two big guns to come good on the big day in the semifinal and the final.

Anil Kumble on how India can fit Yashasvi Jaiswal in their XI

Former Indian legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble was also present in the conversation. He explained the only way that he felt India could get Yashasvi Jaiswal into their playing XI:

"The only option for India in case they do open with Yashasvi is they drop Virat down to No.3 and then push Rishabh at five and then obviously Shivam Dube misses out."

Shivam Dube had an ordinary outing against Afghanistan where he scored just 10 runs off seven balls. Picked for his ability to tonk the spinners, only time will tell whether India will stick to Dube.
