Shikhar Dhawan has reminded India fans of the 2023 ODI World Cup heartbreak ahead of the highly anticipated India versus Australia showdown in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. lost the summit clash against Australia, their only defeat of the marquee ICC event, on November 19, 2023.

The loss came as a big shock as the hosts were the only unbeaten team till then in the tournament and favorites to lift the title. On Friday (June 21), Dhawan shared a picture on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:

“Man can get over anything, but not 19th November.”

Notably, Australia had also beaten India in the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup under Ricky Ponting.

Dhawan, who scored 1265 runs against Australia in ODIs, had won the 2013 Champions Trophy with India under MS Dhoni's captaincy. It remains the Men in Blue's last silverware in ICC events.

Rohit Sharma and Co. will seek revenge against Australia when they face off on Monday, June 24, in a Super-Eight clash. The match will be played at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.

In T20 World Cups, the Men in Blue lead the Aussies 3-2 in head-to-head battles. The two teams last faced off in the 2016 T20 World Cup, where India won by six wickets.

Overall, India have won 19 out of 31 matches against Australia in T20Is, while one game didn’t yield a result. Australia have won 11 games against India. The 2007 champions will be looking to continue their domination over Australia in the shortest format of the game.

Both India and Australia are yet to lose a game in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Mitchell Marsh and Co. have won five matches in a row, including their Super-Eight win over Bangladesh via the DLS method on Thursday, June 20.

Meanwhile, India won three matches in the group stage while the fourth game against Canada was abandoned due to rain. They then beat Afghanistan by 47 runs to begin their Super-Eight journey on Thursday.
