A Sweden-based flight tracking application, Flightradar 24 shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) after the 2024 T20 World Cup champions India left from Barbados to New Delhi on Wednesday, June 3. They announced that the team's flight became the most-tracked on their app.
The players were originally scheduled to leave from Barbados on Monday and fly to Mumbai via New York and Dubai. The Rohit Sharma-led side, however, were stranded at the team hotel due to inclement weather in Barbados.
Heavy rains lashed the Caribbean Islands coupled with a hurricane that affected electricity, water supply, and normal flight operations. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a special charter plane to evacuate the Indian players from Barbados back to the country.
A special ‘Air India’ [Boeing 777-232 (LR)] renamed as ‘AIC24WC’ arrived in the island country on Wednesday. The flight left with Indian players, support staff, and Indian media persons (stuck) at 4.56am local time (2.26pm IST). It is expected to land in New Delhi at 5.21am IST.
Sharing the details of the India-bound flight, Flightradar 24 wrote on X:
“Our most tracked flight right now – T20 World Cup champions India on their way home.”
