India captain Rohit Sharma became the first player to hit 200 sixes in T20 internationals. The right-hander achieved the landmark during the 2024 T20 World Cup Super-Eight clash between India and Australia in St Lucia on Monday, June 24. The right-hander needed five maximums to get to the magical figure.

The achievement came in the fifth over of India’s innings. Rohit smashed a 100-meter six off Pat Cummins towards deep mid-wicket to bring his 200th six, his fifth maximum of the game.

Interestingly, Rohit is way ahead of his competitors. New Zealand’s Martin Guptill and England captain Jos Buttler are second and third with 173 and 137 sixes, respectively. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (133) and West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran (132) complete the top five on the elite list.

During his knock, Rohit also went past Pakistan captain Babar Azam (4145) and teammate Virat Kohli (4103) for the most runs in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma hits 92 off 41 balls in IND vs AUS 2024 T20 World Cup Super-Eight clash

Rohit Sharma led from the front for India against Australia in the 2024 T20 World Cup Super-Eight clash. The right-hander scored 92 runs off 41 balls, hitting eight sixes and seven boundaries. It was his highest score in T20 World Cups and second-best for India in the competition, only behind Suresh Raina (101 vs SA in 2010).

At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 127/3 after 11.2 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube at the crease. Rohit was the last batter to be dismissed, cleaned up by Mitchell Starc, whom he smashed for 28 runs in the third over of the innings.

With the knock, Rohit also returned to form after managing 23, 8, 3, and 13 in his last four innings. He, however, had smashed an unbeaten 52 against Ireland in India's 2024 T20 World Cup opening game.

India will now look to continue their unbeaten streak and book a berth in the semifinals. Rohit Sharma and Co. beat Bangladesh by 50 runs in their last outing. They will be keen to seek revenge for their heartbreak against Australia at the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh's Australia must beat India by a decent margin to secure a place in the last four. They lost to Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan by 21 runs in their previous game.
