Fans trolled the Australian team after they were knocked out of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Their exit from the showpiece event was confirmed after Bangladesh lost by eight runs against Afghanistan in Kingstown, ST Vincent, on Tuesday, June 25. As a result, the Rashid Khan-led side progressed to the semifinals.

Ahead of the Afghanistan-Bangladesh clash, all three teams had a mathematical chance to qualify for the semifinals. After the Afghans managed only 115/5 in 20 overs, the Bangla Tigers had to chase down the target in 12.1 overs to progress. Interestingly, for Australia to book a semi-final spot, Bangladesh had to win but after 12.1 overs.

On the other hand, Afghanistan needed to secure a victory to reach the semifinals. The duo of Rashid (4/23) and Naveen-ul-Haq (4/26) put incessant pressure on the Bangladesh line-up and secured a sensational win.

Fans were hilarious with their reactions to seeing the T20 World Cup 2021 champions getting knocked out of the tournament.

Here's what they posted on X:

"Australia were counting on Bangladesh in a KO. Its like waiting for a bus at a train station," a fan posted.

Some fans also urged Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh to step down from the captaincy after a disappointing exit from T20 World Cup.

"When the Aus selectors chose Mitch Marsh as captain of the T20 side over Pat Cummins, I thought as many did it was very disrespectful, especially in light of the extraordinary feats Pat has achieved since ascending to the captaincy role. Now, the chickens have come home to roost," another noted.
"Time to sack Mitch Marsh as a captain. Move on from old generation, new generation is ready to take over!" a fan tweeted.

Australia lost against India and Afghanistan in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup

Certainly, Australia can only blame themselves after losing out on the opportunity to seal a semifinal spot in the T20 World Cup.

After securing a 28-run victory over Bangladesh, they suffered a shocking 21-run loss against Afghanistan. The Mitchell Marsh-led side failed to chase down the target of 149 set by Afghanistan.

On Monday, June 24, Australia conceded 205 against India and lost by 24 runs. They finished the Super 8 stage in the third position with two points and a net run rate of -0.331.
