"The weight of my name increased with those five sixes"- Rinku Singh recalls breakthrough moment in his IPL career

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh recently opened up on how his life transformed after hitting five sixes in a row against Yash Dayal of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL last year. With 29 needed off five balls, Rinku sent each delivery into the stands to pull off a win that looked impossible.

The southpaw said people sometimes don't believe that 'Rinku' is his real name and that it sounds feminine. However, the Kolkata batter cheekily replied that the weight of his five sixes made his name stand out.

In a video posted by KKR on Instagram, here's what Rinku Singh had to say about the five sixes:

"Many have asked me whether Rinku is a household name or my real name. It is my real name and many feel that generally, girls have such a name (laughs). But the weight of my name gradually increased with those five sixes (smiles) and now my name has got recognition."

Rinku said he never thought even in the wildest of his dreams that he would be able to win a game from that situation and become an overnight sensation. He thus believes in the power of God and that the latter would always plan the best for him.

"I never thought that I would hit five sixes. So stop thinking, the person above (God) has got plans for you, so trust him," he added.

Rinku Singh became a household name after his heroics against the Titans. He shed light on how the fame made him feel. He is grateful for the love and admiration that the fans show every time he walks onto the field.

On this, Rinku said:

"I gradually began getting ads and became a bit famous. It feels good when you see your hoardings and when you enter the ground and people chant your name."

Rinku added that before his breakout IPL 2023 season, he used to stress a lot about whether he would be able to get game time or whether he would be able to make an impact.

However, the five sixes made him realize that things would fall into place if he continued working hard. Not only did Rinku get into the Indian team but is also among the traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup, set to begin next month.
