Team India captain Rohit Sharma shared a photo of himself laying on the ground at the Kensington Oval in Barbados after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday. The right-handed batter took to X and stated that he doesn't have the words to describe how he feels and only wants to bask in the glory.

The 37-year-old became only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win the T20 World Cup as the Men in Blue joined England and the West Indies to win the crown twice. With 177 to chase, South Africa were in the game for the most part, but crumbled at the death to lose by seven runs.

The Nagpur-born cricketer wrote on X:

"This picture epitomises how I’m feeling right now. So many words but can’t find the right ones to express what yesterday meant to me but I will, and I will share them, but right now I’m basking in a dream come true for a billion of fans."

The veteran batter finished as the second highest run-getter of the tournament with 257 runs and played a starring role with the bat against Australia and England.

At the post-match press conference, Rohit announced that he is retiring from T20Is and is glad to do it after winning the World Cup, given his desperation for the trophy. As quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, he stated:

"This was my last [T20I] game as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup. I wanted this badly. Very hard to put in words. It was a very emotional moment for me. I was very desperate for this title in my life. Happy that we eventually crossed the line."

The 37-year-old has amassed 4231 runs in 159 T20Is.
