Afghanistan have roared back into the tight contest against Australia with the wicket of the dangerous Glenn Maxwell. The all-rounder perished after scoring a fifty in the run chase at the Arnos Vale Ground in St.Vincent on Saturday, June 22.

Maxwell looked to threaten Afghanistan's efforts while defending the target yet again after rescuing Australia from a spot of bother. The Men in Yellow were reduced to 32-3 in the sixth over as Afghanistan's new ball attack made easy work of the top-order.

Maxwell negotiated the spinners well and stayed on top of the required rate in the middle overs, even though Stoinis was struggling at the other end. Although Afghanistan responded strongly with a couple of wickets, Australia were in the driving seat as long as Maxwell was at the crease.

The right-handed batter soon reached his fifty and looked to close out the run chase with reputed finisher Matthew Wade at the other end.

The match was turned on its head after Gulbadin Naib struck once again to get Maxwell's key wicket in the 15th over. The Australian batter tried to drive and carve the delivery through the off-side, but could only get an edge that found Noor Ahmad at point.

The left-arm spinner had to dive forward, which he did with impeccable timing to complete the catch to turn the match around. Have a look at the key dismissal right here:

Maxwell departed for 59 runs off 41 deliveries with six fours and three sixes to his name at a strike rate of 143.90.

Afghanistan on the brink of victory after Maxwell and Wade's dismissal

Australia were stranded at 106-6 in the 15th over following Maxwell's dismissal. Their last recognized batter Matthew Wade also perished after a couple of deliveries to tilt the game completely in Afghanistan's favor.

The subcontinent side held their nerve to run through the Australian tail and as of writing, they are just one wicket away from recording a historic win.
