Yet again, the Indian dressing room had a special guest to give away the best fielder medal after their team’s victorious semifinal game against England in the T20 World Cup on Thursday, June 27. Dinesh Karthik, who is currently in the Caribbean islands as a commentator, gave away the medal to Rishabh Pant.

Team India bagged a 68-run thumping victory over defending champions England to make it to their third T20 World Cup final, and their first since the 2014 edition of the tournament. Notably, India won the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2007, defeating Pakistan in the final.

The Men in Blue were phenomenal on the field against England in the high-intensity encounter. Having lost the semifinal of the 2022 edition of the tournament against the Jos Buttler-led side, India avenged the loss brilliantly.

BCCI shared the video of the medal ceremony on its official Instagram account, with the caption:

“📽️ 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗕𝗧𝗦 | 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 🆚 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 | 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 A sharp cricketing mind and a gem of a person presented the fielding medal 🏅after the semi-final 😎”

"Axar, Kuldeep are gun spinners" - Rohit Sharma expresses pride in players' performances after win against England in T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma expressed his satisfaction after India’s comprehensive win against England. Under his leadership, India have made it to three consecutive ICC finals in the past year, including the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, the ODI World Cup 2023, and most recently the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit lauded Suryakumar Yadav for his efforts with the bat, as the two Mumbai Indians batters stitched together a crucial partnership in the middle. The Indian skipper also reserved praise for the spin-bowling duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, who shared six wickets between them, scalping three each, as India defended their total.

“Very satisfying to win. Worked very hard as a unit and it was a great effort from all. We adapted really well, conditions were challenging. That's been the success story for us so far. If bowlers and batters adapt, things fall in place. At one stage, 140-150 looked par. But we got runs in the middle, SKY and I were going and thought we can get 20-25 more,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.
“I didn't want to give that away, wanted to let the batters play on instinct. 175 was a very good score, bowlers were fantastic. Axar, Kuldeep are gun spinners. Tough to play shots against them in these conditions. They were calm under pressure. We had a chat after the first innings, message was to keep stumps in play. That's what they did,” he added.

India will now lock horns against South Africa, who made it to their first-ever World Cup final after beating Afghanistan in the first semifinal. The match will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, at 8:00PM IST.
