“We wanted this really bad” – When captain Rohit Sharma echoed 1.3 billion fans after India won 2024 T20 World Cup
India captain Rohit Sharma echoed with 1.3 billion people back home when he said they wanted to win the 2024 T20 World Cup badly after his side beat South Africa in the final. That came as India won an ICC trophy after an 11-year gap.
The 37-year-old credited his team for their exceptional performances at the mega ICC event. He also reserved special praise for the support staff. Rohit said in the post-match show:
“Overall, as a team, as a group on the field, we wanted this really bad. We wanted to win this. To win a tournament like this, a lot goes behind the scenes, a lot of effort, and lot of minds need to come together.
"I am very proud of this bunch of boys I have and the management. That has to start from the management, coach, captain and then the players go out there and do it. Throughout the tournament, I think we were fantastic," he continued.
“To be honest, we worked very hard as individuals and as a team, lot has gone on behind the scenes for us. It is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. We have played lots of high-pressure games in the past as well and have been on the wrong side as well,” Rohit added.
India will next play an ICC trophy at the 2025 Champions Trophy from February 19 to March 9.
