Team India batter Virat Kohli's dismal outing in the T20 World Cup 2024 continued, as he was dismissed for a golden duck by Saurabh Netravalkar against the USA at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 12.
Chasing a moderate total of 111 runs, skipper Rohit Sharma took the charge in the first ball. He tapped one to the third-man region to open the scorecard for the Men in Blue. Kohli, coming from the back of two dismal outings, was expected to spend some time in the middle to regain his mojo.
However, Virat Kohli went hard at an away delivery from Saurabh Netravalkar in the very first delivery. The ball was angled across the right-handed batter and Kohli had to pay the price for playing away from the body. All he could manage was an outside edge and it was an easy catch for USA wicketkeeper Andries Gous. Kohli looked absolutely dejected on his way back to the dressing room.
This is the second time Kohli has got out for a golden duck in T20I, while this was his first in T20 World Cups.

Saurabh Netravalkar puts the USA on top by dismissing Rohit Sharma
Reeling at 1/1, fans expected Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant to stitch together a big partnership and set up India's run chase. However, it wasn't to be as Saurabh Netravalkar got the better of the Men in Blue skipper, who walked back after scoring three off six deliveries.
In the third over of the innings, Netravalkar bowled with a scrambled seam that held onto the pitch after pitching. Rohit closed the bat early, which induced a top edge. Harmeet Singh ran back from mid-off to hold onto a spectacular catch.

The dismissal reduced India to 10/2 in 2.2 overs. The onus will now be on Pant and Suryakumar Yadav to bail India out of choppy waters.
