The 14th edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October-November, 2027.
This is the first time that marquee event will return to Africa after a gap of 24 years. It was way back in 2003 when South Africa and Zimbabwe co-hosted the 50-over World Cup.
How many teams will participate in the next World Cup?
The World Cup will expand to 14 teams in 2027. South Africa and Zimbabwe will gain automatic qualification by virtue of being the hosts.
Co-hosts Namibia will not gain an automatic ticket for the World Cup as they are not an ICC full-member nation. Hence, they will have to go through the usual process of qualification.
Apart from SA and ZIM, the other 8 teams will qualify depending on their standings in the ICC ODI rankings.
The remaining 4 teams will be ascertained via ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, which will take place in 2027.
