Pakistan and South Africa have announced their squads for Pakistan’s tour of South Africa from December 2024 to January 2025. According to the official website of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohammad Rizwan will lead the Pakistan team on the white-ball leg and Shan Masood will captain the Pakistan Test side. For South Africa, wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen has been announced as the stand-in captain for T20Is, with regular skipper Aiden Markram being rested due to workload management, as per ICC’s official website. Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas in ODIs and Tests.

According to the official website, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Salman Ali Agha have been named among the three touring squads of the Pakistan team.

PAK vs SA T20I series

Pakistan started their tour of South Africa by playing a three-match T20I series against the hosts in December 2024. According to ICC’s official website, the first T20I between the two teams was played on December 10, 2024, in Kingsmead, Durban. The second T20I took place at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on December 13, 2024. The third and final T20I was scheduled for December 14, 2024, at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. It was later called off due to inclement weather. Wicketkeeper-batters Mohammad Rizwan and Heinrich Klaasen led their respective sides in the T20I series.

A fractured toe ruled out speedster Anrich Nortje from the T20I series, while Tabraiz Shamsi returned to the T20I setup for the first time since playing the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

After the T20I series, the hosts, South Africa, took on the visitors, Pakistan, in a three-match ODI series. According to ICC’s official website, Pakistan and South Africa faced each other at Boland Park in Paarl in the first ODI on December 17, 2024. The second ODI was played in Newlands, Cape Town on December 19, 2024. The third and final ODI was hosted at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on December 22, 2024.

After the culmination of the white-ball leg, South Africa will host Pakistan in a two-match Test series as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. According to the ICC’s official website, South Africa will play the first Test at SuperSport Park, Centurion, on December 26, 2024. The Newlands in Cape Town will host the second Test on January 3, 2025.
