PCB cites 'extraordinary circumstances', requests extension for Hafeez's bowling test

This is the second time Hafeez has been reported

The ICC had given a deadline to the PCB for conducting a bowling test for cricketer Mohammad Hafeez, in light of his bowling action being reported as suspect in Galle in the first Test against Sri Lanka.

PCB has asked for an extension citing extraordinary circumstances, namely the non-issuance of a visa to Hafeez by the Indian authorities. The ICC accredited testing centre is in Chennai.

“With the extraordinary circumstances, we have requested the ICC to give a new date," Nadeem Akram Cheema, Pakistan’s team manager, told ESPNcricinfo. "We have tried everything to make sure he had his test within 14 days but the visa hasn't been granted by the Indian embassy here in Colombo. We have asked for another date between third Test and ODI series."

On June 21, Hafeez was reported for his bowling action. The ICC regulations provide a leeway of maximum 14 days before the test has to be conducted. The player concerned can continue to bowl until the test results are declared, which is why Hafeez bowled 14 overs in the second Test in Colombo. He has since travelled to Palkelle for the third Test, which is to begin from July 3.

This is not the first time that Hafeez has been reported. He has previously been reported in November 2014. Last time, his action was found illegal. According to the regulations, the elbow flex cannot be more than15 degrees. His elbow flex was found to be as high as 31 degrees. If found in violation again, Hafeez can be suspended for a period up to one year.

After the previous incident, he faced a delay due to an injury. He was cleared to play only in April 2015.
