Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has taken another U-turn on his retirement from international cricket. The swashbuckling all-rounder refused to confirm his decision to bid goodbye after his side’s Super 10 encounter against Australia at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
The 36-year-old was asked at the toss by Brendon Julian whether this would be his last international game for the Men In Green. Afridi replied by saying that he had not taken any decision to leave the game after the match.
“I haven't taken any decision [on the retirement]. I will do it in front of my nation,” the all-rounder said at the time of the toss.
Following his side’s loss to New Zealand at the very same venue on Tuesday night, Afridi had hinted that the game against Australia could be the last one of his international career.
“We keep repeating mistakes and in this format, you can't do that. It might be the last game of my career against Australia. Let's see how things go,” he said.
The Australia-Pakistan game is a must-win for both sides and the eventual result will certainly have a big say on who qualifies along with New Zealand for the semifinals.
