What happened the last time India played Bangladesh in a T20 World Cup clash?

India will face Bangladesh in their second T20 World Cup 2024 Super-Eight match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Saturday, June 22. Till now, both teams have faced off four times in T20 World Cups, with the Men in Blue coming on top on every occasion.

India will be high on confidence as they convincingly defeated Afghanistan in their opening Super-Eight match. Batting first, the Men in Blue lost their captain Rohit Sharma early, but Rishabh Pant provided a push to the scoreboard with his innings of 20 runs from 11 balls. After that, it was Suryakumar Yadav (53) and Hardik Pandya (32) who took India to a decent total of 181 runs.

In response, Afghanistan never looked in the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeed Singh picked up three wickets each as India won the match by 47 runs.

On the other hand, Bangladesh lost to Australia in their first Super-Eight match. The Bangla Tigers scored 140 runs, thanks to some decent contributions by Shanto (41) and Towhid Hridoy (40). Meanwhile, Pat Cummins took a hat-trick for the Men in Yellow. In response, David Warmer was on fire, as Australia won the match by 28 runs, as per DLS.

India held their nerves in a rain-affected game in 2022

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first in the 35th match of the 2022 T20 World Cup, played at the Adelaide Oval. India started slowly and lost Rohit Sharma in the fourth over. The Men in Blue captain scored only two runs.

KL Rahul and Virat Kohli started building a partnership, as India were 37/1 after the powerplay. Rahul hit Shoriful Islam for two sixes and a four in the ninth over. However, he was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan in the following over for 50 off 32 balls.

Then came Suryakumar Yadav, who played his shots and was well-supported by Kohli. SKY got out on 30 in the 14th over. In the last five overs, it was all Virat Kohli. The India veteran was at his best, as he remained unbeaten on 64 off 44 balls. He hit eight fours and one six as India scored 184 runs in their 20 overs.

In response, Bangladesh came with all guns blazing. Litton Das struck two fours and a six in the third over. The right-handed batter was in amazing form. He brought up his fifty in 21 balls as the Bangla Tigers were 60/0 after six overs. However, the rain played its part when Bangladesh was 66/0 after seven overs, 17 ahead of the DLS par score.

The game was resumed with the Bangladesh target revised to 151 in 16 overs, meaning they needed 85 from the last nine overs. India got their first wicket on the second ball of the eighth over, a direct hit from KL Rahul sent the dangerous Litton Das to the dugout. He scored 60 off 27 balls.

Shami got rid of Shanto in the 10th over. The Bangla Tigers needed 52 off the last five, with eight wickets in hand. However, Indian bowlers came back strongly. Arshdeep Singh took two wickets in the 12th over before Hardik Pandya bagged a couple of wickets in the 13th, helping the Men in Blue take charge.

It all came down to the last over, with Bangladesh needing 20 to win. However, Arshdeep kept his calm as the Men in Blue won this thrilling encounter by only five runs. Virat Kohli was given the Player of the Match award for his 64-run innings.
