The latest match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was the final of the 2022 event between England and Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in November 2022.
Batting first, Pakistan huffed and puffed their way to 8/137, thanks to a 28-ball 38 from Shan Masood and a quickfire 14-ball 20 by Shadab Khan. Seam-bowling all-rounder Sam Curran proved to be the thorn in the flesh of the Pakistanis, as the left-arm pacer chipped in with three wickets at the expense of just 12 runs.
In response, Naseem Shah made the ball talk during the powerplay and eventually helped Pakistan to reduce England to 3/45. However, a calm-and-collected knock by Ben Stokes (51* off 49) and an ill-fated injury to Shaheen Afridi ensured that the three Lions became the T20 World Cup Champions for the second time in the history of the tournament.
England will defend its crown in the upcoming edition of the global showpiece event, which will be staged in the West Indies and the United States of America between June 02- June 29, 2024.
