Armored Core Vi: Fires of Rubicon is a mecha-based vehicular combat game released in August 2023. The game made a comeback after nearly 10 years. It was developed by FromSoftware, known for games like Darksouls and Elden Ring, and was published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game managed to sell over 2.8 million copies within 2 months of its release. The game is available on platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox series X/S.

What is Armored Core VI about?

Armored Core VI is set in the future where people have built civilizations in space. In the planet Rubicon 3, a substance called Coral was discovered that can be used both as an energy source and to transfer data. The people thought Coral would help them advance technologically but instead, it caused a disaster called the Fires of Ibis, leading to the death of the planet and also the nearby stars. It was believed that Coral was lost.

Fifty years later, Coral is found again on planet Rubicon 3. All the companies race to the planet to take control of the coral, without caring about the harm it could cause the locals, Mercenaries also join in for the loot.

In the game, players play as a special human named C4-621, who works for a boss named Walter. Players fight as pilots controlling a robot called an Armored Core. The main character hopes for a better life and thinks of taking the job as a mercenary. As the story progresses, you will land on the planet Rubicon 3 illegally, where you will find the identity of a dead mercenary and make it your own, called Raven.

Armored Core VI Gameplay

The gameplay in Armored Core VI is based on Mecha-based vehicular combat. Players take on the role of the pilots of strong mechs named Armored Cores. Armored Core VI has key gameplay features that make it stand out:

  • High-speed movement: the player can move the mech in all directions quickly, allowing for strategic maneuvers and dynamic combat.

  • Heat Management, keeping the mech from overheating is crucial. Too much heat locks it down temporarily, so you must balance attacks, boosting, and cooling.

  • There's a wide range of weapons, each affecting how your mech plays. From guns to blades to missiles, your choice impacts your strategy.

  • Lock-on Targeting is possible by locking onto enemies. This is especially important for weapons like missiles or sniper rifles.

  • Shields and Armor help protect your mech, but they can be broken. Balancing defense and offense is key.

Customization and Build Variety

Modular Design helps you customize almost every part of your mech, from its limbs to its weapons, allowing for unique builds. Each part affects your mech's abilities, so balancing them is important for your play style. Players can build various types of mechs, from heavy tanks to fast snipers, encouraging experimentation.

Mission Structure and Flow

Progress through completing missions offered by different groups within the game's world. Missions vary, including tasks like destruction, defense, retrieval, and exploration. Boss Battles make epic encounters with powerful bosses to test your skills and mech build. On completing missions, the player earns currency and unlocks new parts for customization.

Additional Gameplay Elements

There is a PvP arena where you can battle other players. In Co-op Multiplayer, you can team up with friends to tackle challenging missions. Some areas encourage exploration, potentially leading to secrets and resources.
