Australia v Scotland - ICC Men
Can Glenn Maxwell turn his tournament around in the first match of the Super 8s?

Set 6 of the official ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Fantasy League begins with the contest between Australia and Bangladesh on Thursday, June 20, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. Set 5 was a mixed bag, with a few picks, especially the wicket-keepers coming good, while the bowling options left a lot to be desired.

Set 6 will see India and Afghanistan miss out without a fixture.

Set Preview

We're in for another three-fixture Set, with Australia and Bangladesh kicking it off with their first action in the Super 8s in Antigua. England and South Africa face off at the high-scoring St. Lucia, with the West Indies taking on the USA at Barbados on Friday night local time.

There are chances of rain in both Antigua and Barbados, but it shouldn't be enough to interrupt the match significantly.

Team Selection

I'm going with a fair few punts in this Set as the unpredictable nature of games between fairly matched sides has meant that it's not always the most obvious picks who shine. I've also decided to use the Special Sixes booster in this round.

I'm backing Australia to comfortably trounce Bangladesh, and with Glenn Maxwell batting at No. 4 and likely to bowl his off-spin against the many southpaws in the Bangladesh batting order, I'm taking a punt on one of my favorite Fantasy assets.

Marcus Stoinis is a must-have given how well he has played in this tournament. I've also punted on David Warner over Travis Head, with Adam Zampa the 4th and final pick from the Aussies. The three batters should help well in maximizing the potential of the six-hitting booster.

Moving on to the SA-ENG clash, I've opted not to back either of the England openers against a quality Proteas bowling attack. Instead, I'm considering picking Moeen Ali instead, with his move up to No. 3 making him a very attractive prospect. I've also backed the in-form Jonny Bairstow to take up one of the hard-to-fill batting slots.

Reeza Hendricks has scored plenty of runs against England in T20Is in the recent past, and with de Kock back in form, he should be able to play his natural game and take his time before laying into the bowlers. Anrich Nortje rounds out the selections from this fixture as he's a reliable wicket-taker in what is a hard-to-predict match.

Lastly, I envision the West Indies comfortably getting past the USA, but Monank Patel's side hasn't been easy to beat, and while they could concede some runs, I don't see them losing too many wickets. That's why I've gone with Nicholas Pooran as the main batting option, an all-rounder in Dre Russ, and a frontline bowling option in Akeal Hosein.

Captaincy: While picking Marcus Stoinis, Andre Russell, or Pooran may look like the best captaincy picks on paper, I'm keen on making a differential move by handing the armband to Glenn Maxwell. He's a stellar spin-hitter, a handy bowling option, and on his day, he has a very high points ceiling.
