Spanish giants Barcelona have contacted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for a possible move to the club, as per a report of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Barca Universal on X). The Georgian winger currently plays for Serie A side SSC Napoli and has been one of their best players over the past few seasons.
The 23-year-old rose to prominence after his heroics in the 2022-23 campaign. In that edition, he registered a whopping 31 goal contributions across 43 appearances. To break the statistics down for better understanding, he scored 12 goals and delivered 13 assists in 34 Serie A games. In the UEFA Champions League, he got two goals and four assists in nine outings.
This season, the left winger has already notched up five goals and two assists in 12 Serie A appearances. His contribution behind Antonio Conte's SSC Napoli to be the current league leaders is immense.
It is not that Barcelona have a shortage of wingers in their setup. They have Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres. Even Dani Olmo, who is an attacking midfielder, can be used in the flanks if needed. But Hansi Flick's focus is to renovate the entire side.
Raphinha and Yamal have been in top form this season. But Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres have received just 158 and 430 minutes of game time across all competitions this season, respectively.
Barcelona are at the top of the La Liga table with 33 points from 13 games. They have won 11 fixtures and lost just twice. If the Catalan giants want to continue their dominance in Spain and also in Europe for the upcoming years, they would need a strong enough contingent. Adding Kvaratskhelia would only put more options at the disposal of Hansi Flick.
Barcelona have been deadly in attack in the UCL
Barcelona currently sit sixth in the UEFA Champions League table. They have accumulated nine points in four fixtures, which includes a massive 4-1 victory over Hansi Flick's former side Bayern Munich.
Just three points separate them from Liverpool, who sit calmly at the zenith. However, there is one place where Barcelona have surpassed all their oppositions. In four outings, they have netted 15 goals in total.
Two of the players from their forward line claim a spot on their goal-scoring charts. One is of course, Polish linchpin Robert Lewandowski. The other is Brazilian menace Raphinha. Both have found the net five times so far.
Lamine Yamal, who is labeled a star for the future, is however, yet to shine at the continental stage. Of course, he was a vital cog in Spain's Euro Cup-winning squad this season, delivering one goal and four assists. But for his club, he has produced just one goal and an assist across four appearances this season or 330 minutes to be precise.
