Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr have been handed a boost as one of their key players, Sultan Al-Ghannam, has been cleared to play by the medical team, as per reports. The 30-year-old right-back sustained an injury during their Saudi Pro League clash against Al-Orouba on October 5.
Al-Ghannam has now completed his recovery and even participated in the training on Sunday (October 20). A post on X by Al Nassr Zone read:
"The medical team gives Sultan Al Ghannam the green light after recovering from injury. Stefano Pioli will decide whether or not to include the player in the squad list during today's training."
Al-Nassr will next play in the AFC Champions League Elite against Iran's Esteghlal FC on Tuesday (October 22). However, head coach Stefano Pioli is not expected to hand Al-Ghannam a start in this fixture.
In their last two continental outings, Al-Nassr managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Al-Shorta on September 16. Cristiano Ronaldo was not available in that fixture due to illness. However, he came back against Al-Rayyan and helped the Saudi Arabian outfit fetch all three points in the competition with a 2-1 win on September 30.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr's big game against Al-Hilal around the corner
Al-Nassr have matches coming in quick succession. After the Esteghlal game, they will face Al Kholood in the domestic league on October 25. Post that, they will appear in the King Cup of Champions, where they will face Al-Taawoun on October 29. On November 1, they will take on Al-Hilal.
Al-Hilal are the league leaders. They have won each of their seven fixtures this season. On the other hand, Ronaldo's team have won five and drawn two matches. Both teams are unbeaten in the Saudi Pro League. But a difference of four points keeps Al-Nassr in the third position.
Cristiano Ronaldo has played a crucial role for his side this season. He has scored nine goals and delivered three assists in a total of 10 appearances across competitions. He has helped his side get back to winning ways in the AFC Champions League Elite.
In the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo is not yet the top scorer. Al-Hilal's Aleksandar Mitrovic is leading the charts with 10 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo has four goals less. However, in the next two domestic fixtures, including the one against Al-Hilal, the Portuguese star would aim to shorten this gap with the Serbian forward.
