Liverpool are considering adding 29-year-old Bayern Munich star midfielder Joshua Kimmich to Arne Slot's contingent, as per BILD chief Christian Falk. The German midfielder plays not only as a central midfielder but also as a right-back at Bayern Munich.

Kimmich's contract at the German club is coming to an end this summer. While Bayern are in talks to hand him a new contract, Liverpool have shown interest in the 29-year-old considering his versatility. Moreover, with an unsure future of Trent Alexander Arnold at the club, it remains to be seen how Liverpool manage the entire situation.

Joshua Kimmich notably, has been a long-time stay at Bayern Munich. For the Bavarians, he has won eight Bundesliga titles along with one UEFA Champions League triumph. Moreover, he has registered a mind-boggling 97 appearances for the German national team and has been named in five Bundesliga teams of the season.

However, the acquisition of Kimmich is a bit different from Liverpool's transfer strategy in recent times. The Reds usually prefer signing players in their early twenties. With time these players shine and build themselves as superstars at the Anfield. However, some exceptions are always there.

For example, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk were already established players when they were roped in by Liverpool. Kimmich's signing could be an addition to that tally of exceptions, considering his age, experience and trophy cabinet.

As mentioned earlier, Kimmich can slot in as the right-back in case Trent Alexander-Arnold bids farewell to Anfield. Or, he can act as a secondary option to Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister in the heart of midfield. Either way, he will be a beneficial signing for Arne Slot in the coming window or even the existing one. Moreover, Slot prefers his midfielders to be better playmakers compared to being destroyers and Kimmich ticks that box too.

Liverpool go down to Spurs in Carabao Cup

In the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Arne Slot's side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ange Postecoglu's Tottenham Hotspur. The solitary goal of the game came in the 86th minute from Lucas Bergvall.

Slot had rested some of his regular starts like Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Luis Diaz among the few. However, bringing them on later in the game didn't help his side avoid the defeat or emerge victorious.

The Reds will return to action on Saturday (11 January) in the FA Cup, when they take on Accrington Stanley in the third-round clash.
