European giants Borussia Dortmund and Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion are monitoring Liverpool's versatile player Harvey Elliott, as per Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas. They are looking to sign him in 2025, either in January or in the summer.
A lack of playing time under new manager Arne Slot is the reason the clubs are eyeing a possible move for Elliott over the next two transfer windows. Notably, Elliott was more of a regular during Jurgen Klop's tenure at Liverpool.
Having graduated to the Reds' senior team from their academy back in 2021, he shined bright. In his inaugural season, he featured in 13 games including two fixtures in the Premier League 2. The next season saw him get 46 games to his name, where he scored five goals as well.
However, it was in the 2023-24 season, that he was used the most by Klopp. Elliott received 2786 minutes across 53 matches where he delivered 11 assists and notched up four goals.
However, things have changed after Arne Slot took charge of the side last summer. Under the Dutchman's tutelage, Elliott has featured in only nine games across competitions, registering just 147 minutes. Moreover, in the Premier League, he has clocked only 43 minutes across seven fixtures. Such a drastic change in his game-time has made it easier for other clubs to acquire his services.
At just 21, Elliott is regarded as one of the finest English players. Thus, be it Borussia Dortmund or Brighton, bagging the services of Elliott, who can operate both as a midfielder and a winger, will help strengthen the respective clubs' arsenal.
Brighton under Fabian Hurzeler might be too interested in Elliott's services, provided his previous playmaking feats at Liverpool itself. Moreover, being an English player, he would find it easier to adapt to Brighton's culture and style of play.
Dortmund on the other hand, are from Germany, which would mean for the first time in his career, Elliott would have to make a shift to a different country. His youth career and senior career have been based in England itself, starting from Fulham and then Liverpool.
Liverpool's upcoming challenges
Arne Slot's side have a tough set of matches coming up in January. They lost 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final in their last match on Wednesday, January 8.
Their next clash is against Accrington Stanley at Anfield on January 11 in the FA Cup third round. Post that, they will face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on January 14. The Tricky Trees are the only side to defeat Liverpool in the current Premier League campaign. After a trip to the City Ground, the Reds will turn their focus to the clash against Brentford on January 18, which is once again an away game.
Liverpool will get back to Anfield for two successive home games. The first in the UEFA Champions League against LOSC on January 21 and then against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on January 25. The Reds' last game in January is on 29th, when they travel to the Netherlands to face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
