Ryzen 5 9600X is the new budget chip that is ͏part of the Ryzen 9000 series of ͏CPUs.͏ It is ͏sch͏edu͏led͏ to͏ lau͏nch on August 8 and is leaked to retail at $279, which ͏is quite affordable conside͏ring͏ the price R͏y͏zen ͏5 7600X debuted at͏. It is an excellent CPU that you can incorporate into your next͏ gaming ͏ri͏g. ͏

However considering this is a new launch, this chip won't be seeing any major dis͏counts just after the release. So ͏you might also want to explore other options in the same price range or even those priced lower. In͏tel's ͏i5 13600K ͏come͏s͏ u͏p as an option retailing for $228, and could be a great choice for budget gaming.

The Ryzen 5 9600X is based on the newer Zen 5 architecture, which brings 16% IPC performance improvements over the last generation. The Intel i5 13600K is a part of the Raptor Lake series that was released in 2022. The CPU market dynamics have changed a lot over these two years. AMD has snatched the spotlight away from Intel in 2024 and is now the preferred choice among gamers.

Let's take a look at the specs comparisons between the two:

Both ͏of the CPUs come ͏with the same number of cores technically because the 8 extra cores do not contribute to performance but are there only for efficiency purposes. This data was fetched from NanoReview. Based on these data, the Ryzen 5 9600X should be better in gaming performance. According to benchmarks, the newer AMD chip is 12% on average faster than the older Zen 4 7600X. So we will be comparing the 7600X with the i5 13600K to get an assumption of how better the performance would be.

Based on these tests by Hardware Unboxed, the Ryzen 5 7600X is 4% faster on average than the i5 13600K. So the Ryzen 5 9600X should effectively be 16% to 20% faster than the i5 13600K. Going for the Ryzen 5 9600X, for gaming, is the obvious choice here.

Intel is undoubtedly a great chip for productivity but for gamers, AMD has always been the obvious choice. Intel manufactures to-of-the-line powerful chips but AMD manufactures a well-balanced chip. One that is powerful, well-priced, and power-efficient.

Intel's reputation has taken a hit among gamers due to several issues they faced when trying to return their faulty i9 CPUs. According to reports from the community, Intel has been allegedly canceling return requests without the approval of the consumer to save them massive financial losses.

Ryzen 5 9600X vs Intel i5 13600K: Final take

It is a no-brainer to recommend the Ryzen 5 9600X for budget gaming in 2024. The Intel chip is good but the Ryzen CPU is way better. With the newer architecture and the improvements that come along with it, Intel has no counter to these beasts of a CPU lineup.

It is worth it to pay $50 extra for the Ryzen 5 9600X when the performance difference and the efficiency are that much more advanced than the opposition. It is the best $300 gaming chip right now, second only to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
