The advantage of the L3 cache technology can be felt only while gaming. So it is useless to check the benchmark scores of this CPU. We are going to avoid that and directly compare it with the i9 14900K in a few games. The games were tested using the RTX 4090 GPU and 32 GB 6000 MT/s DDR5 RAM.

Red Dead Redemption 2175 FPS193 FPS (+10%)
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora231 FPS (+1%)228 FPS
Forza Horizon 5248 FPS (+1%)246 FPS

This data was taken from Testing Games's YouTube channel. The games were played on 1080p using ultra graphics settings. As evident from the table, 7800X3D delivers comparable performance to Intel's flagship consumer CPU--the i9 14900K. In some games, it even beats the Intel chip by 10-20% margins.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D could beat the Ryzen 7 7800X3D by almost a 20% margin

When the Ryzen 7 7800X3D was announced, it showed about 10%-15% improvement over the previous gen 5800X3D. Going by Woligroski's words, AMD is focusing on trying something new with their X3D chips this time. They are focusing on improving the 3D-V technology which could translate to 20% or an even greater difference in gaming performance.

AMD could use a 5 nm process to make the L3 chipset which could incorporate even more L3 capacity. They could also stack the L1 and L2 cache as well, which would exponentially increase the processing capabilities of the chipset. The possibilities are endless. Only time will tell what improvements will be seen in the new generation of X3D chips.

We would suggest you wait for the launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D or even the Ryzen 9 9900X3D or the 9950X3D. The announcement can be expected within the next three to four months as AMD launched the 7000 series chipsets and their X3D versions only four months apart from each other. Time could fly by very quickly, so waiting would be the right choice.
