The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2025 is scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 2, after three days of closed-to-public practice rounds. Almost nine decades old, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is the second signature event of the season, following The Sentry, and one of the eight PGA Tour's signature events. The course has changed over the years, but it has been played on Pebble Beach Golf Links since 1947 and Spyglass Hill Golf Course since 1978. Since the event is a professional-amateur event, it uses a better ball (four-ball) format.
At the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, there are 80 professionals and 80 amateurs on the field at the same time, and golfers compete in duos, with one professional and one amateur. Due to the event's structure, it has been held on two golf courses. Both golf courses have hosted the first and second rounds, while the third and fourth rounds have been held at the Pebble Beach Golf Links. However, only the professionals will move on to the third and final rounds, which will be played in an individual stroke format over the final two days.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am history
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was first held in 1937 with the original name Bing Crosby Pro-Am. The event was originally played over 18 holes but was expanded to 36 holes in 1938, 54 holes in 1948, and 72 holes in 1958. It was the first national pro-am golf event, and it was hosted by Bing and Larry Crosby, both entertainers. The inaugural event was won by Sam Snead, an 82-time PGA Tour winner who then received a $500 winner's share.
The Pro-Am had to take a four-year break because of World War II, like many other older golf competitions. It was restored in 1947. Through 1966, it was played at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, Cypress Point Club, and Pebble Beach Golf Links. The new Spyglass Hill took Monterey Peninsula CC's place as the third course in 1967.
