Comic Con India

Comic Cons are comic-based conventions held at various locations across the globe. The first edition of Comic Con in India took place in Delhi in 2011. The event was later expanded to various other cities and now takes place in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. Over the years, Comic Con India has become one of the largest pop-culture experiences in the country. Comic Con India saw 2,00,000 visitors collectively across all the cons in the country in 2018.

Bengaluru Comic Con

Comic Con India has been organising the event in Bengaluru since 2012. This year marks the seventh annual Comic Con in the city and the event is set to take place at Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation in Whitefield on 16th and 17th November.

What is a Comic Con?

Comic Cons were originally get-togethers for fans of comics to meet each other, take part in various comic-related events such as cosplays, listen to the creators of comics, take part in discussions and party. The history of Comic Cons traces back to early 1960s. The first Comic Con is said to have taken place in New York during July, 1964 and event was called "Comiccon '64". Comic Cons, however, have evolved to be more inclusive of other forms of art and fiction including TV Series, Films, Video Games, etc. Although Comic Con began as a convention for nerds who read comics, it has now become a large-scale pop culture event.

What happens at a Comic Con?

Cosplays are usually an integral part of a Comic Con. The Indian Championship of Cosplay is hosted by Comic Con India. Winners of cosplays from Comic Cons held in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune will be the finalists of the contest and a chosen winner from the lot will represent India at the Crown World Championships of Cosplay, Chicago Comic Con.

Comic Cons will also host various panel discussions, contests, etc and will be a one-stop hub to purchase comics, TV Series and movie-themed merchandise. Fans will get to interact with each other and meet the creators/celebrities from the comic/art/fiction fraternity.

Is it compulsory to dress up to attend Comic Con?

No. Although many people who attend the Con come dressed as a character from a comic, film, series or game to participate in the cosplay, it is not a necessity.
