AEW Blood and Guts History
The first-ever Blood and Guts event was on March 25, 2020, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. However, it was postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The event was at last rescheduled to air on May 5, 2021, during the episode of Dynamite on TNT, which was held at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. The event made a return in June 2022, taking place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, following AEW's resumption of live touring in July 2021. This time, the event was broadcast on TBS as Dynamite had moved to the network in January 2022. The 2023 edition of Blood and Guts was held in July.
AEW started taping a special episode of Friday Night Rampage on TNT that was named Royal Rampage and it was related to the Blood and Guts special since the 2022 edition. The Blood and Guts event centers around the Blood and Guts match, which uses the classic WarGames format from Jim Crockett Promotions, created by Dusty Rhodes. This format highlights two rings enclosed by a steel cage with a rooftop, differing from the modern version which has no rooftop. The match must be won by submission or surrender, with pinfalls not included as a win condition.
