About Chevron Championship

One of the LPGA's five major championships, the Chevron Championship is a professional women's golf competition. The Chevron Championship 2025 will be held from April 24-27 at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course of The Club at Carlton Woods in Greater Houston, Texas. The 2025 event will have a purse of $7.9 million. Since its promotion to major status in 1983, it has customarily been the first of the season.

The event had multiple sponsors over the years. Chevron Corporation became the title sponsor in 2021. From its inaugural year until 2022, it was held at Rancho Mirage, California's Mission Hills Country Club. However, in 2023, the event was moved to the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. The event has had numerous official sponsored names, all of which included Shore's name until 2000.

Chevron Championship History

Dinah Shore and David Foster founded the tournament in 1972; however, it was just 54 holes at the time. Its first tournament was the most lucrative in women's golf, with a purse of $110,000, more than twice as large as the LPGA Championship or the U.S. Women's Open. All of the previous ten seasons' tour event winners were invited to the first edition.

The Chevron Championship 2025 is scheduled to take place at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Greater Houston, Texas. Further, Chevron and the LPGA Tour confirmed earlier in 2024 that the tournament will remain in Greater Houston until 2029.

Golf Digest dubbed the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Carlton Woods the "Best New Private Course in Texas" and the "#3 Best New Private Course in the U.S." after it debuted in 2001.

The course was created by Jack Nicklaus, a 73-time PGA Tour champion, including 18 majors. Along with an interesting layout of undulation and bunkering, the expansive teeing grounds and landing areas wind among lakes and parklands. Nicklaus recognized his Carlton Woods course as one of the Top 18 Course Designs in his career in 2014 (via TheChevronChampionship.com).
