The Dubai Tennis Championships, also known as the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships (for commercial reasons) is one of the nine WTA 1000 events that will take place during the 2023 season.
Jelena Ostapenko won last year’s edition of the tournament by beating Veronika Kudermetova 6-0, 6-4 in the final. Several top players will compete at the Dubai tennis Championships this year, including Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, to name a few.
History
The first edition of the tournament took place in 2001 with Martina Hingis winning it by beating Nathalie Tauziat 6-4, 6-4 in the final. The likes of Venus Williams, Justine Henin, Lindsay Davenport and Caroline Wozniacki have won the Dubai Tennis Championships over the years.
Venue and Dates
The Dubai Tennis Championships takes place at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It has a capacity of 5000. The WTA 1000 event will take place from February 20-25.
