Any of the race winners of the previous and current season are automatically qualified for the NASCAR All-Star race. The past winners of the NASCAR All Star Race are also allowed to participate in the race without any extra steps.

An additional leverage is given to past Cup Series champions who ran the previous season full-time. The final way to qualify for the race is by winning one of the stages of the NASCAR All Star Open event. NASCAR also employs fan votes. The highest voted driver gets the final spot in the All Star Race grid.

The NASCAR All-Star race and the All-Star Open will be held at the North Wilkesboro Speedway situated in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina in the 2025 season. The circuit is a 0.625 mile long track. It has a paved surface and is certified as a short-track by NASCAR. The Speedway features a banking of 14 degrees through the turns.

Kyle Larson holds the lap record for the North Wilkesboro Speedway in the NASCAR Cup Series. He set a time of 0:18.362 during the 2024 NASCAR All-Star race.

Jimmie Johnson has won the most NASCAR All Star Races. The seven-time Cup Series champion was able to win the All-Star race four times in his career. Kyle Larson trails him with three wins to his name. Larson has the most wins out of the 2025 NASCAR grid in the event. Hendrick Motorsports have secured 11 victories in the event throughout the history, as of February 2025.
