About New Zealand ODD

Ford Trophy is the premier domestic List A limited-overs cricket competition in New Zealand. The competition started in the 1971-72a season and was renamed the Ford Trophy following a partnership between New Zealand Cricket and Ford Motor Company in 2011.

Ford Trophy 2020-21 will be the 50th season of this tournament. It will run from 29 November 2020 to 5 March 2020. Six teams will play a total of 32 matches between them. Auckland is the defending champion. The teams are Auckland, Canterbury, Central Districts, Northern Districts, Otago and Wellington.

Teams in the competition play each other twice, forming a ten-game round robin. The top team at the of all the 10 rounds qualify directly to the final and their opponent is decided by the elimination final between the second and third-placed teams. All the games follow a 50 overs 6-ball format.

A win is worth four points whereas a tie or no result fetch 2 points each for the team. The team also has the chance 1 Bonus Point in every match. The team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition shall be awarded one bonus point. A team’s run rate will be calculated by reference to the runs scored in an innings divided by the number of overs faced. Where a side is all out, the number of overs to be used is the maximum number of overs that side was otherwise eligible to face. Where matches are shortened and targets revised using the Duckworth/Lewis system, bonus run rates and defensive targets are derived as a function of the revised target score and maximum overs.
