Pennzoil 400 is back in March to wrap the victory belt around one of the lucky drivers in 2024. The event will be the third race of the season. The Pennzoil 400 has gathered a lot of hype with its unorthodox podium celebrations. The race is going to be a culmination of driver determination and the ever-ecstatic crowd of Vegas. Pennzoil 400 will also be a deciding race, which will highlight the stars of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series.

Pennzoil 400 is a race of historical importance. Its fame and quality of competition meant the Pennzoil 400 was once a part of the Crown Jewel Races of NASCAR. The race is sponsored by Pennzoil and Jiffy Lube. The venue has an ample amount of entertainment for spectators throughout the weekend. The most noticeable attraction of Pennzoil 400 is going to be the strolling piano, which is free to play for anyone.

Pennzoil 400 History

The Pennzoil 400 was inaugurated during the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup Series. The race became the first event held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Pennzoil 400 was always a 400-mile race except for the year 2009. The event was sponsored by United Auto Workers and Daimler Chrysler in its initial years. Mark Martin from Roush Racing became the first driver to wear the “Belt of Victory” at Vegas.

The year 2009 was a special event in the history of Pennzoil 400. Carroll Shelby International was the sponsor of the race from 2009 to 2010. They added an extra 27 miles to the race in 2009 to honor their car, the Shelby Cobra 427. It wasn’t until 2018 that Pennzoil took over the sponsorship of the event, naming it the Pennzoil 400 we know today. William Byron from Hendrick Motorsports is the defending racer at Vegas, having won the event in the NASCAR 2023 Cup Series.

Pennzoil 400 2024 Schedule

The Pennzoil 400 will be the first Cup Series race in March 2024. The event will be held over the weekend from Saturday, 2 March 2024 to Sunday, 3 March 2024. The Pennzoil 400 will have one practice session which will be held on Saturday at 11:05 AM track time.

The Qualifying session for the race will be held on the same day, immediately after Practice. The Qualifying session will last from 11:50 AM to 1 PM, track time. The Pennzoil 400 2024 will start on Sunday from 12:30 PM track time. It is a 3-stage race with the first stage lasting 80 laps each and the last stage lasting 107 laps.

Pennzoil 400 Venue

The Pennzoil 400 2024 will take place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. The track is a 1.5-mile-long Superspeedway with paved asphalt. It has a steep banking of 20 degrees to facilitate high-speed oval racing and straightways of 9 degrees. The lap record for the NASCAR Cup Series is held by Kevin Harvick. He clocked a lap of 0:28.808 in his Ford Fusion during the 2018 Pennzoil 400.
