The NASCAR Cup Series is a 36-race event that spans the entire year racing at different locations throughout America. The NASCAR Cup Series features many different tracks. Although racing is focused mainly on oval tracks, there are also traditional circuits and street courses. The Cup Series classifies its racing tracks as Speedways, Superspeedways, Short Tracks, Rovals, Road Courses, and Street Circuits. Each track possesses a different challenge for the participating drivers of the Cup Series. The NASCAR Cup Series has its own set of important races. These races, dubbed as the Crown Jewel events, have the most significance owing to their history and racing legacy in the Cup Series. The Crown Jewel races are the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400, and Southern 500.
The NASCAR Cup Series follows a schedule which is divided into two stages. The first 26 races of the schedule form the Regular Season and the final 10 races form the Chase for the Cup Series. After the completion of the first 26 races, the top 16 drivers who have either won a race or have the most number of points are qualified to race in the NASCAR playoffs. The highest point scorer after these 26 races is awarded the Regular Season championship title. The final 10 races are divided into three stages, where four drivers are eliminated after every third race. The 36th and final race of the season, known as the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race, is the championship-deciding race of the season, wherein four drivers participate to race for the ultimate title of the Cup Series.
