About PGA Tour 2025
The 2025 season of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour will mark the beginning of its 110th season and the 19th iteration of the FedEx Cup. The leading professional golf tour of the United States, PGA, is headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Jay Monahan has been the PGA Tour's commissioner since January 2017, succeeding Tim Finchem, who served the tour for 23 years.
Under the umbrella of the PGA Tour, there is PGA Tour Champions, a senior professional tour for golfers over the age of 50 and a developmental tour, the Korn Ferry Tour, for those who have not yet earned the PGA Tour card from qualifying school. Further, the first season of the PGA Tour Americas, a developmental tour that was created in April 2023 by the merger of the PGA Tour of Canada and the PGA Tour of Latinoamerica, started in 2024.
PGA Tour History
The history of the PGA Tour dates back to 1916, when the first all-professional golfing body of the United States was formed, the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America). The organization was a non-profit with the mission of "serving members and growing the game." From then until the 1930s, it hosted a number of events, developing a schedule and formalizing itself.
In the 30 years that followed with the expansion of television coverage, golf's popularity increased with then-champions-now-legends Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus. It was around this time in the 1960s when the tour professionals demanded larger purses because revenue from the sport increased. This resulted in a dispute between the tour professionals and the PGA of America, which was resolved with the formation of the American Professional Golfers (APG), an independent organization run by the tour pros in July 1968.
Even yet, the disagreement continued, and the APG was finally abolished in favor of the Tournament Players Division under the PGA, an independent organization overseen by the Tournament Policy Board. It included representatives from the PGA of America as well as tour pros.
Regardless, in 1975, it changed its name to the "PGA Tour." Moving on, the PGA of America transformed into a club professional organization without the tour players, but it still held authority over two important tournaments and still has: the Ryder Cup and the PGA Championship.
Joe Fey was the first commissioner of the Tour from 1969 to 1974; then Deane Beman held the office for 20 years from 1974 to 1994. Tim Finchem came next, serving 23 years until 2017, when Jay Monahan took charge.
PGA Tour 2025 Schedule
The PGA Tour's 2025 season began on January 2 with The Sentry, the season's first signature and overall tournament. There will be 36 tournaments from the former, including four majors, until the Wyndham Championship on July 31-August 3, which will mark the end of the regular season.
From August 7 to August 24, three playoff events will be held: the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship, which will determine the season champion and FedEx Cup champion.
The season officially ends after the playoffs and the fall events (seven to be precise) starting on September 11 with the Procore Championship. They continue until December 14, with the Grant Thornton Invitational culminating. The purpose of the fall events is to improve the FedEx Cup points of the golfers for the upcoming season.
On the PGA Tour schedule, there are four unofficial events; though sanctioned by the tour, they do not carry FedEx Cup points or prize money. The events are the Ryder Cup, the Hero World Challenge, the Grant Thornton Invitational and the PNC Championship.

The PGA Tour reached an agreement with XM Satellite Radio in 2005 to co-produce a channel called the PGA Tour Network (Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio), which featured talk shows and event coverage about golf.
