About South Africa vs Netherlands 2023
South Africa will host the Netherlands for a couple of 50-over games in March/April 2023.
This series is a part of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup ODI Super League, which serves as a pathway to automatic qualification for the marquee event, set to take place in India later this year.
This series was set to be held in November 2021, but was eventually called off after the 1st ODI (a washout) due to the Omicron variant threat.
South Africa were handed a heartbreak for the ages by the Dutch when these two sides last met. That meeting took place in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, where the Netherlands played out of their skin to knock the favourites out of the competition.
Speaking of the ODI Super League, only 1 automatic spot is up for grabs, and there are three contenders.
South Africa currently boasts 78 points from 22 matches, and they face stiff competition from the West Indies (88 points in 24 games), Sri Lanka (77 points in 21 games) for the final spot.
The hosts will look to claim the available 20 points in order to give themselves the best possible chance.
The Willowmoore Park in Benoni will host the rescheduled 2nd ODI on March 31, while the 2nd match will take place at the iconic New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on April 02.
