About Spanish Grand Prix

The Spanish Grand Prix is one of the most historic and enduring races in F1. It was first held in 1913. Through the decades, the Spanish Grand Prix has witnessed interruptions due to global conflicts, but it has always made a comeback. Since its revival in 1967, the track has been hosting the F1 races for decades. It is one of the oldest races in the history of F1.
The inaugural Grand Prix was not an official F1 race; it was an event for touring cars. The race was held on a 300 km racing track built near Madrid and was won by Carlos de Salamanca with a Rolls-Royce. Since its inception in 1913, the Grand Prix has been hosting races on different tracks until 1991, when the Circuit de Barcelona was introduced.

The race features a host of historic wins. These include Michael Schumacher’s first victory for Ferrari and Pastor Maldonado’s first victory in Formula 1.

Spanish Grand Prix Configurations
The Spanish Grand Prix has undergone several configuration changes through the years. In the early 1990s, the track’s start and finish line were completely changed for the road team time trial cycling event. In 1991, the first elevation change took place to improve the fast-paced corners. In the early 2000s, the track length was reduced, and the Nissan chicane was removed to improve safety standards. For the 2023 edition, a new chicane was introduced between turns 10 and 11, thus reverting the track once again to its original length.
