About St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2022 - WTA
St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy is a tournament for professional female tennis players, founded in 2003 and played on indoor hard courts. The tournament was earlier known as Ladies Neva Cup and was a part of ITF Women's Circuit event till 2015.
In 2016, the WTA Premier Tournament was upgraded. The prize money offered in previous years were $25,000 and $50,000 but in 2016 the prize money offered was $753,000.
The tournament was first held in 2003 in St. Petersburg. Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova won the first title of the year at the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy when she entered as a wild card in 2018. Other than Petra Kvitova, the tournament has also witnessed Kristina Mladenovic and Robert Vinci as winners in past years.
In 2019, Russian tennis players Maria Sharapova, a five-time Slam champion, and Daria Kasatkina, who has a unique forehand that generates lots of topspin, are going to play in their motherland.
In 2019, the tournament is going to held in St. Petersburg, Russia from January 28th to February 3rd 2019 as the 10th edition of the tournament and 4th time of the WTA Premier tour. The tournament will be a part of the 2019 WTA tour and will be played on indoor hardcourts.
The tournament director Natalia Kamelzon has declared the total prize money to be $823,000.
