The PGA Tour's alternative event, the Barracuda Championship, was founded in 1999 as the Reno-Tahoe Open. The event had its first sponsor in 2008, The Legends at Sparks Marina, but after only two years, the event lost its sponsor until 2014, when Barracuda Networks began as a title sponsor.
The 26th edition of the event will begin on July 15 and end on July 21, though the first round of the event will start on July 18. However, there will be an exception on July 20, when "Girls Golf Clinic with Annika Sorenstam" will be the primary event.
There will be a Monday Pro-Am on July 15, junior golf from morning to afternoon, a pairings party in the evening of July 16, and an official Wednesday Pro-Am on July 17. These events will take place four days before the first round of the event on July 18.
Where is the Barracuda Championship?
The 2024 Barracuda Championship will be played on the Old Greenwood Course of Tahoe Mountain Club, situated in Truckee, California.
Since 2020, Old Greenwood, one of Tahoe Mountain Club's two 18-hole courses, has hosted the Barracuda Championship. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus (140 slopes and 75.2 overall) and is a mix of difficult and beautiful, featuring Old Greenwood winds through meadows, pine forests, and mountainous terrain.
The course, which debuted in 2004, is situated at an elevation of more than 6,000 feet above sea level, so long hitters have several chances to reach even farther. In 2023, the course had to remove over 500 inches of snow, the most in the region since 1952.
It was listed inside the top 25 in the 2007 Best in State and 77th in the 2011–12 100 Greatest Public. Furthermore, it was in the top 35 in 2009–10 and placed 32nd in 2011–12.
