One of the most prestigious and oldest golf clubs, Augusta National Golf Club, was established by Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones in 1932 but was designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie. It has served as the venue of the Masters Tournament for nearly 90 years now; the Masters is the only golf major with the same venue every year.

The property was originally a 365-acre nursery called Fruitlands, and in the early 1800s, it was an indigo plantation. The club is for-profit and privately owned, strictly abiding by its rules and values; it hosts a few member-only events, and the membership cannot be bought.

The club has about 300 members, and new members are only invited if an existing member steps down or passes away. There is no application process to be a member, but criteria must be considered for an invitation.

Since the 1930s, the ultra-exclusive organization has upheld extreme privacy about its membership list. Only one or two new members are added by the August National Year to make up for attrition losses. An existing member must nominate someone for admission, followed by a detailed screening process.
