Charles Schwab sponsors the Texas PGA Tour professional golf tournament known as the Colonial National Invitation, which has been held since 2019. Every May, the event's organiser, the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, holds it. It is one of five invitational tournaments contested on the PGA Tour, with the first taking place 78 years ago in 1946. The Charles Schwab Challenge 2024 is set for May 23–May 26 of that year. When the golfers take the green at the Colonial Golf Course, they will be awarded the $9,100,000 purse.

Which course is the Charles Schwab Challenge played on?

Colonial Country Club is a private golf club in Fort Worth, Texas, in the southern United States. Since 1946, the club has played host to the Colonial National Invitation, an annual PGA Tour event that is the longest-running non-major tour event to take place at the same location. Situated northwest of Texas Christian University's campus, the golf course is located on the southern bank of the Trinity River's Clear Fork.

Perry Maxwell of Oklahoma and John Bredemus of Texas designed the golf course at Colonial Country Club. The par-70 course, which is currently 7,209 yards (6,592 metres) in length, has the nearby residential area encircling it for the most part and the Trinity River (Clear Fork) on its northern border. The 1941 course measured 7,035 yards (6,433 metres), a considerable distance at the time.

The course has played host to three major or notable professional golf competitions in addition to the yearly PGA Tour event: the 1941 US Open, the 1975 Tournament Players Championship (which Al Geiberger won), and the 1991 US Women's Open (which Meg Mallon won).

What is the Charles Schwab Challenge's background?

The Charles Schwab Challenge has been held at the Colonial Country Club for its eight-decade history, dating back to 1946.

The tournament champion receives a piece of apparel, just like in the Masters, RBC Heritage, and other international competitions. In observance of the sport's heritage, the winner is given a Scottish tartan plaid jacket.

There have been a few pivotal moments in the event. Annika Sorenstam made a historic participation in the tournament's 2003 edition. The Swede became the first female participant in a PGA Tour event for almost six decades and one of just seven to date to have done so.

The Charles Schwab Challenge 2020 was a special occasion. Being the first PGA Tour tournament without spectators, it was also the first to occur during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Only one individual has won the competition more than twice in the years. That was the legendary Ben Hogan, who was linked to the competition. His five victories came in 1946, 1947, 1952, 1953, and 1959. The nine-time major winner is commemorated with a statue close to the Colonial clubhouse.

The Charles Schwab Challenge has been won by a number of players, including Phil Mickelson, Zach Johnson, Nick Price, Corey Pavin, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.
