The 2025 Masters Tournament is set to begin on April 10 and end on April 13. The Masters is held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Alister MacKenzie and Bobby Jones designed the golf course. It is one of the four golf majors, though the Masters became one due to popular opinion. It was originally known as the "Augusta National Invitation Tournament" in 1934.
However, the name was changed in 1939, at the suggestion of Clifford Roberts, an investment banker and co-founder of the Masters Tournament with Jones. The event has been held annually since World War II, from 1943 to 1945. The prestige and rich history of the event have introduced a lot of traditions, including the green jacket, champions dinner, par 3 contest, and honorary ceremony, among others.
The Masters Tournament winner's share
In 2024, the Masters Tournament had a record purse of $20 million, with Scottie Scheffler taking home a record-breaking $3.6 million of the winner's share. The winner's share is 18 percent of the purse, as per the rules of the PGA Tour's prize money distribution.
Scheffler won the Masters championship for the second time in three years and earned a $3.6 million prize, $360,000 more than Jon Rahm earned last year. Scheffler finished 11 under with a 4-under 68 in the final round, becoming the fourth-youngest golfer to win two green jackets and the 10th to win two in three years.
Ludvig Aberg, who finished as the runner-up, earned $2.16 million, more than the prize money earned by Danny Willett or Jordan Spieth when they won the green jacket.
The top three players were set to receive seven-figure paydays, but Collin Morikawa struggled and ended up in a three-way tie with Max Homa and Tommy Fleetwood. Morikawa's bogey on the last hole cost him $320,000, but Homa and Fleetwood took home $1.04 million. This was the first time the Masters had five players bring home $1 million or more.
